More than 25 years ago, PGMF, with the support of UNDP, began making small loans to Myanmar’s rural villagers to help them build their incomes and improve their lives. Our vision has been to empower communities and families challenged by poverty and marginalization, and over the last quarter century, PGMF has served 2.3 million people, mostly women. For the last several years, we have worked tirelessly toward registration as a commercial MFI, in line with a government law prohibiting INGOs and NGOs from conducting microfinance operations. The government has not granted us a license to legally register and so it is with great sadness that we must announce the closure of PGMF in Myanmar.
